Class Teacher- American Community Schools
ACS

I joined ACS when I moved to the UK. Originally I visited the Hillingdon campus to share my skills as an ICT consultant and ended up taking over a class of grade 2 students mid-way through the year due to their teacher leaving.

At the end of the Hillingdon academic year I was redeployed to the Egham campus due to roll decline. There was lots of valuable learning for me at both schools, click on the links below to find out the highlights:

Implementing an American curriculum Dealing with different cultural expectations.
Establishing a class learning environment mid way through the year. Transition arrangements between teachers, managing anxious parents, maintaining learning expectations/systems and culture for students.
Inquiry Learning using PYP Deepening my skills and beliefs about establishing natural learning.
Reflective learning journals Managing the process of modelling, feedback and cyclical nature of a meta learning approach.
Monitoring and reporting on learning FileMaker Pro relational database system development.
Curriculum Design Establishing consistency of progression between grade levels within the maths curriculum. Learning a particular approach to inquiry based learning.
Applying modern learning approaches to the classroom Establishing a multiple intelligences 'wheel' as a tool for identifying and setting learning goals. Applying this to the PYP Student Profile.
